When Change Calls, Sometimes it Starts with a Haircut!

I’ve learned over the years that when change is coming, it doesn’t always knock loudly. Sometimes it starts as a whisper, a tug in your gut, a dream that stays with you, or a restlessness you can’t quite name. For a few weeks ago, I felt that whisper. I kept sensing that something needed to shift, but I couldn’t put my finger on what.
Naturally, my mind wanted to figure it out. (Sound familiar?) I found myself overthinking, analyzing, and staying stuck in the swirl of “what should I do?” But then, a few nights before a pre-scheduled hair appt, I had a download nudging me to make a physical change. WHAT my hair?!? Yes, cut my hair was first. Then once I leaned into that a bit, what about adding some color. Just... shift the energy.
And here’s the MAGIC of it: the appt was only days away, so there wasn’t much time to second guess. I texted my stylist and asked if we could do a cut and highlights. I didn’t even have a full vision yet, but the pieces fell into place. My niece, a talented colorist, had recently shared a photo that helped guide the decision. And in that chair, as eight inches of hair fell to the floor and new lightness was painted in, I felt a realignment.
The result? A bouncy, light ponytail that made someone smile at pickleball. 😝 AND highlights that may help me diminish the grays a little?!? I am optimistic! And most importantly, a subtle but powerful shift in how I felt in my body, like I had met change with curiosity instead of resistance.
At the same time, another part of my life was shifting in ways I didn’t expect. One of our Find Yourself in Nature workshops wasn’t filling up, and we had to cancel due to venue requirements. It wasn’t what we had hoped, and it certainly wasn’t in the “plan.” But somehow, I kept returning to this quiet knowing that everything is unfolding in the right time. That just like my haircut, some changes are meant to open space for something new or at the very least LEARNING.
Here are a few things I’m learning (and re-learning) about change:
✨Intuition often whispers before it shouts.
That tug you feel? The odd dream or random urge to do something different? Don’t brush it off. That might be your inner guidance showing you the way, even if it seems like a small step.
✨Physical shifts can unlock energetic ones.
Whether it’s a haircut, cleaning a room (or purging a room!!), or rearranging furniture, when we move energy in our outer world, it often shifts something within.
✨Plans falling apart doesn’t mean you are falling apart.
Cancellations, delays, or redirections aren’t failures, they’re part of the dance. Sometimes they reveal the next right step or clear space for better alignment. This is what I am hoping for and already have a clearer plan with the potential workshops.
✨You’re allowed to grieve what didn’t work and give yourself grace.
Change isn’t always smooth. It can sting a little, even if it’s the right thing. Be gentle with yourself as you navigate what’s leaving and what’s being born.
✨You don’t have to know what’s next to take the next step.
I didn’t know what the haircut would lead to, or how the canceled workshop might shape our future ones. But I followed the nudge and it helped move me into a new energetic space.
If you’re in the middle of a transition, BIG or small, I see you. Whether it’s a new season in your business, a fresh start in your personal life, or just the urge to change your hair, trust that you’re being guided. Even when it doesn’t look like you imagined.
Let yourself move with the change instead of resisting it. You never know what kind of lightness it might bring.
